What are dentures?
Dentures are false teeth used to replace one, several, or all the teeth in the mouth, depending on which type a patient chooses. Three types of dentures are available at the practice of Dr. Glenn A. MacFarlane, which includes:
- Partial dentures – Partial dentures snap in and out of the dental arch using a metal framework. These dentures are fabricated with false teeth that slide into place where teeth once were. Doing this restores the smile effectively while allowing for easy removal and care of the denture itself.
- Full dentures – another type of denture is the full denture. A full denture replaces all the teeth in the dental arch. They are held in place with denture adhesives or natural suction. They include false teeth and gums and can take some time to get used to. This is the most economical way to replace all the teeth.
- Implant-retained dentures – alternatively, patients who need to replace all the teeth in the smile but want a fixed denture may want to ask about implant-retained dentures. This is a more conservative option that uses dental implants along the arch to stabilize the dentures to allow them to function at their best.
